A Hint of Spring in the Air
Share
Well, it hasn’t been a bad week.
At last the weather seems to have changed a little, and it finally feels like spring might be on its way. Hooray for that. After the long grey stretch we’ve had, a bit of seasonal change is very welcome.
I managed to get out with the camera two or three times this week and came home with some lovely wildlife photographs. Mostly birds, but I never take those moments for granted. Birds are always a joy to photograph — quick, unpredictable, and full of character.

Thursday might have been a little too ambitious though. I overdid the walking and by Friday I was absolutely knackered. The fatigue is very real. It’s strange how quickly it can creep up on you and remind you that sometimes you need to slow down a little.
My new trail camera arrived this week as well. I’ve set that up in my usual deer spot and moved another one to a completely new location. It’s a bit off the beaten track, so I honestly don’t know if it will capture anything — but you never know. Wildlife has a habit of appearing in the most unexpected places.
As I’m writing this, it’s Friday afternoon and I’m sat relaxing with a coffee. The weather outside is looking a bit gloomy with plenty of rain about, although the forecast says it might brighten up later.
I’ve also been trying to photograph some hares recently. I know where they are, but so far I’ve not managed any decent photos. They always seem to run the wrong way! That’s wildlife photography for you 😂
Really, the best approach would be to get out into the field and lie in wait, but at the moment the land is so waterlogged it just isn’t practical. I was hoping things might dry up by Saturday, but after today’s rain I’m not holding out much hope.

I’ve not seen any short-eared owls locally yet either. That doesn’t mean they aren’t around of course — after all, I’m not sat in the grass 24/7 watching the skies 😂
The long-eared owls should be appearing soon though, so I’m definitely keeping my eyes open for those.
Another thing I’ve noticed is the evenings stretching out. Light until 6pm now — what’s that about? 😂
It’s nice having the extra daylight, but it does mean I tend to stay out later with the camera. And before we know it we’ll be heading towards those summer evenings when it’s still light at 9:30pm.
This year I think I’m going to have to pick my days carefully. I can’t be out every evening until that time again — tempting as it is.
Anyway, that’s it for this week.
As always, thank you for taking the time to read my blog. It genuinely means a lot.
And if you don’t already follow me on social media, keep an eye out for my Picture This logo across all platforms and come along for the journey.

Until next week.
