🦌 A Week in the Woods – Trail Camera Update
Sometimes the waiting is the hardest part.
My new trail camera hasn’t arrived yet, and the original plan was to wait, swap the memory cards, and set the new one up all in one go. But curiosity got the better of me. So off I went to check the two cameras that have been quietly watching the woodland for just over a week.
I’m so glad I did.
To my surprise, they’ve captured some brilliant footage of the deer. Not just the familiar faces either — but new arrivals. A couple of young does and a young buck have stepped into frame, completely unaware they’re part of this ongoing story. There’s something special about seeing new deer appear. It reminds me that the woods are always changing, always moving, always alive.
Just amazing. Truly.
There was also a visit from a Tawny Owl — although the footage isn’t the best. It was taken on one of those wild, windy, rain-soaked nights where everything moves and the camera struggles to settle. Still, you never know. I might be able to blend it into some night sequences of the deer. Sometimes imperfect footage still tells part of the story.
While I was out there, I found a promising little spot for the weasel I’ve seen darting about. They’re quick — blink and you miss them — but I think this new position might give me a chance. I’ve also adjusted for the smaller birds, and there’s a Eurasian Sparrowhawk visiting regularly, which is exciting. As spring approaches, things are definitely beginning to stir.
Now I’m just waiting on that new camera.
The plan is to place it near where the foxes have been active. If all goes well, I’m hoping to capture some proper footage of them going about their secret lives. There’s something magical about seeing wildlife on their terms, in their time.
So just a short update today — a little glimpse into what’s happening behind the scenes at the moment.

The woods are waking up.
