Slowing Down to Move Forward

What can I say—taking a step back has done me the world of good.
Since I made the decision to stop worrying about being a salesman and chasing sales on my website, something shifted. The pressure eased. The noise quietened. And in its place, I’ve found something I hadn’t realised I’d been missing—enjoyment. Real, genuine enjoyment in my photography again.

This morning felt like a small but meaningful victory in that same spirit. I woke up at 4:30am, as I often do, and for once… I stayed in bed. No rushing out the door, no chasing the next shot. I’ve been keeping an eye out for fox cubs that have been spotted locally, and I easily could have gone searching. But I didn’t. And honestly, that felt just as rewarding.

Instead, I’m sat here writing this while my lovely wife cooks me a full English—black pudding included, of course. Now there’s something that divides opinion! A bit like marmite—you either love it or hate it. I know which side I’m on.
There’s been a lot going on behind the scenes too. I’m hoping to start a podcast soon—I may have mentioned it before. I’ve already begun recording some sounds, and I want to lean into sound design to give it a unique feel. Something instantly recognisable. I’ve written a script for the opening, but after that, I plan to let it flow naturally. I don’t want it to feel forced or rushed. I want it to be something people can relate to—an honest reflection of what I do and how I see things.
Alongside that, my wife and I have been working on a new project together. It’s another craft-based venture, with everything handmade. Some of the materials are even sourced and foraged from local woodlands, which makes each piece that little bit more special and unique. We’re really excited about it and hoping to launch soon.
The sunshine this past week has certainly helped lift the mood too. There’s something about a bit of warmth and light that just resets everything. Combined with slowing things down, it’s made a noticeable difference.
I’ve also been refining my website—stripping things back, simplifying, and focusing on a more selective range. Limited prints, more intentional choices. I’m aiming to streamline it even further this week. Less clutter, more meaning.

On top of that, I’ve been working on greeting cards and bookmarks, and I’m hoping to have those finalised and ready very soon.
For now though, I’m signing off to enjoy my breakfast and a slower pace of life.
Hope you’re all having a great Sunday, and thanks for taking the time to read my blog. I’ll be back next week.
