“Three Cameras, One Hope”

Well… I’ve done it. I’ve bitten the bullet.

I’ve ordered a third trail camera.

The deer are currently visiting our usual spot about once a week, which means I’m really struggling for regular footage. By spreading three cameras out across Frickley Country Park, I’m hoping to increase my chances.

My plan is to check them a week apart so there’s always something “cooking” somewhere in the park. In theory, it should give us more consistent wildlife moments to share.

Winter hasn’t helped.

Everything is on the move, avoiding standing water, sticking to firmer ground. Add frost and freezing temperatures into the mix and it becomes even trickier.

Spring is coming though — and with it, more movement, more activity, more life. That’s what I’m holding onto.

But I’ll be honest… this week was frustrating.

I retrieved three videos of Patch. They would have been fantastic. The positioning, the light, the presence — perfect.

Except the lens had moisture on it. And because it’s been freezing, that moisture had turned to ice. The result? Blurred, distorted footage.

When it’s hard enough to get the deer in front of the camera in the first place, losing good clips like that really stings. I was genuinely gutted.

So now, alongside spreading cameras out, I need to figure out a way of keeping the lenses clear of water and frost. A small problem to solve — but an important one.

That’s wildlife photography though.

Patience. Persistence. Problem-solving. And hope.

Fingers crossed it all goes to plan 🤞
